Diplomas for three Arud peer workers

Peer workers are employees who have had personal experience with addiction and recovery and use this valuable experience to support others with their expertise. Three members of the peer team received their diplomas at a ceremony last week.

The training lasts 13 months and comprises 68 lessons, including modules such as: salutogenesis, empowerment, recovery, assessment, crisis intervention or counselling and support. The peers train various skills during this year, such as: Questioning techniques, feedback and active listening, non-violent communication or motivational interviewing.

The peers offer Arud patients an open exchange with people who know the circumstances of people affected by addiction, support when attending appointments or during treatment. They also form a committed advocacy group.

We are grateful that we can count on a team of seven peer workers at Arud. Especially for people who have experienced a lot of stigmatisation, the peers form a valuable bridge between them and the professionals. But also for Arud as a learning institution: without the peers, we would be missing an important perspective.

The increasing cost pressure in the healthcare sector is also noticeable at Arud. The financial scope for establishing promising projects such as peer work is becoming increasingly limited.

With your support, we can continue to support those affected and pursue innovative approaches in the treatment of addiction.
