'Forum Anabolics' - successful start
Arud's new Anabolic Steroids Forum offers experts from the medical and fitness sectors an important platform for further training and dialogue.
Our aim is to close the medical care gap and raise awareness of the issue.
For many young men today, anabolic steroids are as commonplace as protein shakes and regular training. But although one in three of the 200,000 users in Switzerland develops some form of dependency, care services are rare and many healthcare professionals are insufficiently informed.
Arud physician and former competitive athlete Dr Raphael Magnolini knows the topic first-hand. He pointed out that although there is an increased mortality rate among consumers, research is still in its infancy. At the same time, many consumers obtain information on dubious internet platforms, as only a minority visit their doctor.
Cardiologist Dr Helene Kammer presented impressive case studies of heart damage caused by anabolic steroids. She illustrated the health consequences of consumption, such as a weakened heart.
Dr Samuel Iff knows his way around the bodybuilding scene and spoke about anabolic steroids in recreational sports. He reported on the internal perspective of many consumers who consciously decide to use anabolic steroids and initially perceive mainly positive effects such as increased strength, muscle mass and libido - but also seek support when side effects occur.
It is time to talk about the risks of anabolic steroids, but also about the urgently needed medical support services - some of which are currently legally uncertain!
